Choosing the Right Urn for Your Pet: Factors to Consider

Our beautiful ‘Going Home Urn’. Available at our cremation office in Escondido, CA.

The loss of a cherished pet is a deeply emotional and personal experience, calling for careful consideration in choosing a resting place that honors their memory and the joy they brought into your life. Here, we explore how to select an urn that reflects your preferences and commemorates your pet’s life beautifully.

Location of the Urn

Where the urn will reside plays a pivotal role in determining its size, material, and design. You might prefer a prominent place on a mantelpiece, bookshelf, or in a display cabinet. Conversely, you might opt for a scatter tube if you plan to scatter the ashes in a favorite park or garden.  Biodegradable urns are available, ensuring a sustainable and respectful return to nature, for
families wishing to bury the ashes in their yard.

Design and Aesthetic

The urn’s aesthetic should resonate with you, evoking warm memories each time you glance at it. Consider modern designs such as Vega Pet Urns, which is a functional vase or pot and blends well with modern decor. Urns with a wood finish echo a timeless, natural aesthetic, offering a comforting presence in any room. Customization offers a personal touch , whether through engraving or by choosing a design that mirrors your pet’s personality.

Material Choices

Urns come in an array of materials, including wood, metal, ceramic, and biodegradable
materials. The choice often hinges on personal preference and the urn’s final destination. For instance, a durable metal or ceramic urn would suit a home display, while biodegradable materials are perfect for burial.

Reflecting Your Pet’s Personality

Selecting an urn that embodies your pet’s spirit can offer comfort in moments of grief. You might opt for a playful design reflecting a spirited pet, or a serene, elegant look that embodies a calm and loving companion. Many people find a traditional wooden urn to be “sad,” so they opt for something more personalized, like a photo urn that can display a favorite photo of your beloved pet.

We have many urns to choose from at our cremation office. Shown here is our ‘Vega Pet Urn.’ This contemporary urn looks and functions as a vase with a separate, concealed urn vessel in the bottom half. The ashes are safely sealed in a compartment underneath the vase portion of the urn.

Finding Joy in Remembrance

The ultimate goal is to find an urn that brings joy and aids in healing as you reminisce on the happy moments shared with your pet. Whether it’s a photo urn that holds a loving picture, or a uniquely shaped urn that reminds you of a joyful characteristic, the urn should stand as a symbol of love, evoking happiness rather than sadness when you see it.

In conclusion, choosing the perfect urn for your pet is a deeply personal decision influenced by various factors, including the urn’s location, its design, the material, and how it represents your pet’s personality. Keeping these factors in mind will guide you to an urn that not only honors your pet’s memory but also brings you joy and comfort for years to come.

I can't recommend them enough. I had to say goodbye to my 21 year old cat companion. I read the reviews here on Yelp and chose Paws Into Grace and they made an unbearable situation not worse - from the people on the phone to the amazing doctor who came out to the house. She was so understanding and supportive. They were all so helpful, understanding and nice. My girl got to stay at home and say goodbye in the backyard (a hummingbird flew over and it seemed like a good sign too). So glad I didn't have to take her to a cold vet office.

My absolute love Dante had heart failure three months ago. After having him on many medications to help him, his enthusiasm and appetite declined last couple of days. He was in pain and we decided to help him go to heaven rather than torturing him with more medications which would make him even more miserable. I called and spoke to a very kind lady who was patient as I cried through making an appointment. We made an appointment for 1:30pm. Dr. Toni arrived. She was very kind, explained everything to us and gave us the time to be with our boy after the first shot. He wasn't relaxing enough so she gave him a second shot. We stayed with him throughout the entire process and I carried him to her car in the end. It was a very difficult decision but knowing that our boy is not in pain, gives us some peace. We are thankful to Dr. Toni for her kindness and compassion. They will arrange the cremation for us. Since we are in a pandemic, we had our masks on and said goodbye to our boy in our garden.

I wanted to thank you for sending Dr. Brown to euthanize our beloved Myleigh on March 4, 2021. She was compassionate and accommodating, she explained every step of the procedure, and gave us some alone time with Myleigh after she sedated her, but before she attached the IV. We were relieved that we made the decision to let her go to doggy heaven at home. It was a tranquil and serene passing for her, and it very much aids us in the grieving and healing process knowing that she passed away so peacefully. Based on the grace and compassion Dr. Brown demonstrated on one of the most awful days of our lives we would not hesitate to recommend Paws Into Grace for others facing this very painful time.
