Why Is In-Home Euthanasia Better Than a Hospital Euthanasia?
Death is a major life transition. Euthanasia at home minimizes the medical aspect of this transition and allows you to focus on your pet. Saying goodbye to your pet at home has advantages for both the pets and owners.
- Less stress for pets: The vet’s office is associated with unfamiliar smells, people, and white coats. Even though pets do not understand or anticipate death, they do anticipate discomfort and stress associated with vet clinics.
- Comfort for pets: In your San Diego home, your pet is their most comfortable. They don’t need to leave their favorite spot in the sun or move when they are in pain.
- Support for pets and owners: You can be there by yourself or with the whole extended family. Home euthanasia allows you to honor your pet in the comfort of your own space, giving you the freedom to grieve in whatever way feels right for you
- Convenience for families: You can schedule a euthanasia appointment at your availability. You can take your time, plus you don’t need to drive home afterward.
What Is the In-Home Pet Euthanasia Process?
Our veterinarians blend their medical and technical expertise with compassionate care to ensure a peaceful and dignified end-of-life experience for your pet.
- Our San Diego veterinarian will arrive, greet you and your pet, and review the paperwork. This can be filled out ahead of time by downloading and printing the consent form.
- We will review the process and answer any questions, thoughts, and concerns about in-home pet euthanasia.
- We will administer a sedative plus a pain medication to allow your pet to relax into a deep sedation in about 10-15 minutes. You will be right by their side.
- We will inform you of the final injection, allowing you to decide to stay or seek comfort in another location. A temporary IV catheter is then placed and the final medication is given.
